Dydd Gŵyl Dewi
Mass tomorrow of the Patron Saint of Wales, dear St David with a commemoration of the Lent Feria, the first Thursday in Lent. Sadly this means no Oratio super populum “Prayer over the People” which for those who watch our Daily Mass Online broadcasts will have noticed is the very last prayer following the three Post-communion Prayers introduced with the invitation to “Humble your heads before God”. These are extra prayers asking God for His particular Grace to maintain our Lenten endeavour.
The diary otherwise consists of two options for lunch, the OAP Lunch Club – three courses, or the Churches Together Lent Lunch – a bowl of soup. As it’s St David’s Day, I’ll probably go to the former though I am going out to dinner tomorrow evening as well to feast the Saint! Then a meeting with the organist to discuss our “from scratch” performance of Stainer’s “The Crucifixion” which we hope to revive annually as a joint endeavour bringing together Christian singers from across the city. Then I really must get on with the Newsletter and some correspondence before the evening’s English Missal Mass after which I hope to receive our new Stations of the Cross commissioned from local artist, Shirley Veater (who also designed and made our Altar hassock), just in time for use on Friday together with the Seven Pentitential Psalms and the Litany of the Saints (broadcast 5pm prior to 6pm Mass).
Right… bed!
