Our Vocation
At the Brighton Oratory, our vocation is to live out and share the timeless truths of the Catholic Faith, rooted in the sacred tradition and mission of the Church. We strive to foster a vibrant community of prayer, worship, and service, modelled on the fellowship of the Apostles and the Early Church as described in Acts 2:42-47.
A School of Saints
The Brighton Oratory is an orthodox Latin Rite community composed of ordinary men and women committed to establishing and developing a Traditional Catholic faith community. Our purpose is to be a “school of saints,” where members embrace their unique God-given vocation and seek holiness in every aspect of life.
Our life is characterized by:
- A strong fellowship ethos
- Frequent personal and communal prayer
- Voluntary and charitable work
We firmly believe that vocation encompasses more than the Sacred Ministry or religious life. God created each person uniquely and individually for a purpose; no one is here by accident. Whether as clergy, religious, or laity, in holy Matrimony, parenthood, or professions such as teaching, nursing, or medicine, we are all called to love and serve God, to seek His will, and to be instruments of His Divine Charity in the world.
A Fellowship at Prayer and Work
Our vocation is demonstrated daily when the community gathers for prayer and worship, as depicted in Acts 2:42. Mass is offered every day, and frequent Communion is encouraged following an examination of conscience, whether made privately or through the Sacrament of Penance.
Members attend the Oratory according to their circumstances for private and communal prayer, meditation, and spiritual formation. During the week, opportunities abound for catechesis, Bible study, discussion, and social activities.
Fundamental to the ethos of the Oratory is putting faith into action. Members engage in a variety of activities, from visiting the sick to serving the homeless, reflecting our commitment to live the Gospel in service to others. Those unable to attend in person, due to infirmity or other circumstances, remain vital participants in the prayer life and mission of the community.
Discerning God’s Call
The Brighton Oratory supports every member in discerning their unique vocation and purpose. Through prayerful discernment, catechesis, discussion groups, mentoring, and spiritual direction, we assist individuals in discovering and fulfilling God’s will for their lives.
Our vocation extends beyond personal sanctification to the mission of evangelization. As a community, we are committed to:
- Proclaiming the Gospel: Sharing the Good News of Christ with the world.
- Building Fellowship: Creating a supportive and encouraging community of faith.
- Serving Others: Demonstrating Christ’s love through acts of charity and compassion.
Join Us in Our Mission
Whether you are discerning your own vocation, seeking a deeper connection to God, or looking for a faith community, the Brighton Oratory invites you to join us. Together, we strive to glorify God, serve one another, and proclaim the Gospel.
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)
