S. Antonini Episcopi et Confessoris [V post Pascha]
May 10 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm BST
FEAST OF SAINT ANTONINUS, BISHOP AND CONFESSOR (S. ANTONINI EPISCOPI ET CONFESSORIS) WITH COMMEMORATION OF DOMINICA V POST PASCHA in the traditional Roman Rite honours Saint Antoninus of Florence (1389–1459), Dominican friar and Archbishop of Florence, renowned for his profound learning, pastoral charity, and uncompromising commitment to justice and moral theology, particularly in his governance of the diocese and his writings on conscience, commerce, and the duties of Christian life; his sanctity, marked by humility and administrative integrity, stands as a model of episcopal stewardship in an age of social and economic complexity, while the commemoration of the Fifth Sunday after Easter recalls the Lord’s promise in the Gospel (John 16:23–30) that “if you ask the Father anything in My name, He will give it you,” and exhorts the faithful to perseverance in prayer and confidence in divine providence; thus the liturgy unites the example of a vigilant and learned shepherd with the Church’s Paschal anticipation, calling the faithful to fidelity in action, purity in intention, and steadfast trust in God as they await the fulfilment of Christ’s promises.
