Sunday VII Post Pentecost
In today’s Epistle (ROM. VI., 19-23.) St. Paul admonishes the Romans who had been converted to Christianity, but were still sensual and weak, that they ought to be much more zealous in serving God and mastering their passions. He demands of them that they should at least strive, now as hard to save their souls as they once did to destroy them. This certainly is but right, for many a man would become just and holy if he would do as much for heaven, as he does for sin and hell. But to know how wholesome it is to consecrate themselves to justice and sanctity, he wishes them to consider what advantage they derived from sin. Nothing is gained from it but shame, confusion, sorrow, and death, but by a pious life, God’s grace and eternal life. – Often consider this, Christian soul, and do not defile yourself by sins, which profit nothing, but bring shame, grief, and the retributive wrath of God.
Who are the false Prophets spoken of in today’s Gospel? (Matt. VII. 15-21.) Those seducers who under an appearance of virtue and honesty lure innocent, simple souls from the right path, and lead them to vice and shame; who by sweet words, such as: “God , is full of love, and will not be severe on sin, He does not require so very much of us, He knows we are weak, and if a person sins, he can be converted,” seek to steal from souls all modesty and fear, of God. Guard against such hypocrites, for they have the poison of vipers on their tongues. By the false prophets are also understood those who propagate error, who by superficial words fade the true faith, who speak always of love and liberty, and who under the pretence of making people free and happy bring many a soul to doubt and error, depriving it of true faith and peace of heart.
How can we know the false prophets? By their works; for evil, corrupted men can produce only bad fruit. If we look into their life we will find that at heart they are immoral hypocrites who observe external propriety only that they may the more easily spread their poison. The false teachers and messengers of error may be known by their lives, but especially by their intentions, Which are to subvert all divine order, and to put the unrestrained lust of the flesh and tyranny in its place.
Who else are understood by the false prophets? Those who under pretence of making men happy and rich, induce the credulous to make use of superstition, of wicked arts, deceit, and injustice; especially those who under he deceiving appearance of liberty and equality, independence and public good, incite them to open or secret revolt against civil and ecclesiastical authority.
Be not deceived by these so-called public benefactors who look always to their own advantage, but trust in God, support yourself honestly, live like a Christian, and you will find true liberty and happiness here and hereafter.
Pray for today’s martyrs…
A new weekly look at the plight of persecuted Christians across the world. As referred to recently in a homily by Metropolitan Jerome, too few Christians are aware of the level of persecution brothers and sisters in the Faith are enduring elsewhere in the world and nobody is talking about it. This new addition to the Bulletin is given to encourage Christians locally to start talking about the persecution of Christians elsewhere to inspire each other to remain steadfast in Christ in our less challenging situation!
The primary driver of Christian persecution in North Korea is the State. For three generations, everything in the country has focused on idolizing the leading Kim family. Christians are seen as hostile elements in society that have to be eradicated. There was hope that new diplomatic efforts in 2018—including the 2018 Winter Olympics—would mean a lessening of pressure and violence against Christians, but so far that has not been the case. Kim Jong Un has maintained his tight control over the populace, and dissent or worshiping anything else is not tolerated.A weekly look at the plight of persecuted Christians around the world…
How Christians are suffering… If Christians are discovered, not only are they deported to labor camps as political criminals or even killed on the spot, their families will share their fate as well. Christians do not even have the slightest space in society, on the contrary, they are publicly warned against. Meeting other Christians in order to worship is almost impossible and if some believers dare to, it has to be done in utmost secrecy. The churches shown to visitors in Pyongyang serve mere propaganda purposes.
NEW Stained glass!
Parishioner and local artist, Shirley Veater has once again contributed to the beauty of the chapel! Worshippers at “The Chapel in the Inn” at the Regency Tavern will recall the wonderful icons Shirley painted on walls of that chapel and previously, the Stations of the Cross that adorned the walls of the Annex Chapel. Now Shirley has created these beautiful stained glass panels depicting patron saints of parishioners for the Chapel in the Brighton Congress Hall. So while we worship we can be even more aware of that “great silent cloud of witnesses” sharing with us the Divine Liturgy of the Mass as we share with them the eternal worship of God in heaven!
Daily Missal
To accompany your worship why not invest in a St Andrew’s Daily Missal that contains ALL the Propers for ALL the Masses offered throughout the year? Several parishioners have bought copies already and this particular edition has been commended to the Holy Synod for approval.
The St Andrew’s Daily Missal also contains historical commentary and footnotes on the Feast days, devotions, prayers of preparation for before and after Mass as well as the Propers for Vespers for Sundays and major Feast days throughout the year. It also contains forms for Morning and Evening Prayer, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and Compline. It really is a treasury of devotion!
Look out for the Daily Mass posts with the page numbers given for each Mass in the Missal.

Discerning God’s will for my life…
CATECHISM CLASSES will continue THIS Saturday immediately following the end of the Mass there’ll be a quick break fast and class starts at 10am finishing at 11am. This is the perfect opportunity to invite enquirers to the Faith or come along yourself to revisit the basic tenets of Christianity.
The present series is exploring vocational discernment – what is God calling me to? How do I discover what God wants me to do? Why should I do what God wants?
FUTURE EVENTS

Cuba Saturday School Project
The Primus of the Holy Synod, Metropolitan Jerome of Selsey has chosen the Saturday School project for our sponsorship. The monthly rent of the school building is $40 per month or approximately £30, we’d like to raise a year’s rent this Lent, approximately £360 almost $500 and perhaps a little more to contribute to materials and resources for the activities.
Please prayerfully consider contributing to this worthwhile cause, perhaps donating a month’s rent for the school building? Use the button below and be clear to make the donation for “Saturday School Cuba” when prompted. God bless you.

Christianophobia refers to the state of being hateful or spiteful to Christians. A Christianophobe hates or despises Christians and/or what they stand for. The existence of Christianophobia should not be surprising. Jesus Himself predicted the world’s hatred for Christians: “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you” (John 15:18–19). Christians are called not to conform to the world but to be transformed into the image of Christ (Romans 8:29; 12:1–2). The unbelieving world hates what it does not understand and, therefore, will hate those who follow Christ.
Home Office statistics from last year on religious hate crimes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland indicate there were 316 incidents (out of a total of 4213) affecting Christians between March 2015 and March 2016. Organisations like National Churchwatch who describe themselves as a ‘leading organisation for security and advice in the Christian sector’, believe anti-Christian hate crime is significantly under-reported.
A Stop Christophobia campaign has been launched by Premier Christian Radio. The success of this campaign depends highly on the number of people who support it so please share this link with your contacts on social media and sign it yourself! There is currently a momentum building, but change won’t happen unless people stand up and be counted. Together we can ensure that Christian minorities are protected from discrimination and persecution.https://www.thestopcampaign.org/
