Its amazing how people will try and justify the killing of the unborn. The above blog post describes a few scenarios justifying abortion for the sake of protecting women from domestic violence. The fact that these women should be helped to leave their abusive partners rather than kill their unborn children is surprisingly not considered. The fact that these women DO have a choice, i.e. to leave their abusive relationships (and there’s a lot more support available to help women leave abusive relationships than provide for an unwanted child) is barely regarded. Interestingly the author says “Pregnancy is vulnerability. No longer are you (women) only responsible for yourself but innocent new life that does not deserve to be abused.” The logical conclusion apparently is to then kill the “innocent new life”… go figure? “Is it preferable that unwanted pregnancies are forced to continue thus resulting in unwanted children who will have possibly been abused, growing into abusers themselves when they are big enough?” ONLY if the women remain in their abusive relationships will that happen! So… killing the unborn to keep women in oppressive and abusive relationships is the way to fight patriarchy? If women are helped to extricate themselves from the abuse and domestic violence, then so will their children be too! If there is a lack of mother and baby units in women’s refuges, campaign and fundraise for more! If society is lacking in holding fathers to account, campaign and politically lobby for a change in the law so they can be – but don’t think that you can say “father’s have no rights” if then you wish to make them accountable, it doesn’t work!
