Father George

The Revd Fr George von Abel MDiv

Fr George studied theology at an Eastern Orthodox seminary in New York and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1991 and was ordained in the Orthodox Church as a deacon in 1991 and later a priest in 1992 in the Byzantine Rite. With the blessing of his Bishop, Father George took a canonical leave of absence and provided for himself through a career in the Hospitality industry. He has an Associate Degree in Business from Santa Monica College, LA and a Master Certificate in Hospitality Management from the prestigious School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, New York and studied at the acclaimed Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne in hospitality executive management. Then followed a career in the hospitality industry that included managing prestigious 5* hotels in the Middle East. In 2016, Fr von Abel petitioned and was incardinated, appointed and licensed as an assistant priest of the Brighton Oratory, coming to the UK from Juba, South Sudan where aside from his secular work, he supported an orphanage and homeless project.

Father George is fluent in English, Arabic and French. He is currently working in hospitality at a hotel in Gatwick managing upwards of 500 international guests a day checking in and out of the hotel! He is currently living in Worthing but hoping to move to Brighton very shortly to take an active role in the Brighton mission.
