SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Holy Thursday—traditionally known as Maundy Thursday—commemorates the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood at the Last Supper\, when Christ\, on the night before His Passion\, offered bread and wine as His Body and Blood and commanded His Apostles to “do this in memory of me\,” thereby establishing the perpetual sacrifice of the Mass; in the same sacred context\, He gave the new commandment (mandatum) of charity\, exemplified in the washing of the disciples’ feet\, revealing that true authority in the Church is inseparable from sacrificial service\, while the liturgy itself—especially in the traditional Roman Rite—moves from the solemn joy of the Gloria\, after which the bells fall silent\, into the stark gravity of the Passion\, culminating in the stripping of the altar and the translation of the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose\, inviting the faithful to keep watch with Christ in His agony in the garden as the Church enters into the mystery of His redemptive suffering. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Good Friday
DESCRIPTION:Good Friday\, in the traditional pre-1955 Roman Rite\, is the day on which the Church enters most profoundly into the mystery of the Crucifixion\, not by offering the Sacrifice of the Mass\, but by participating in it in a stark\, unbloody manner through the Mass of the Presanctified\, in which no consecration takes place and the faithful do not receive Holy Communion; rather\, after the chanting of the Passion and the ancient solemn intercessions for the Church and the world\, the Cross is unveiled and adored\, and the Sacred Host—consecrated on Holy Thursday—is brought in solemn silence from the altar of repose\, with only the priest communicating\, thereby expressing with liturgical clarity that the Sacrifice of Calvary is unique\, unrepeatable\, and presently contemplated rather than sacramentally renewed\, while the stripped altar\, the prostration\, and the pervasive silence draw the faithful into the desolation of Golgotha\, where Christ\, the true Victim\, offers Himself once for all for the salvation of the world.

SUMMARY:Holy Saturday
DESCRIPTION:The Paschal Vigil\, in the pre-1955 Roman Rite\, is celebrated on the morning of Holy Saturday as a profoundly symbolic anticipation of the Resurrection\, in which the Church moves from darkness to light through a sequence of ancient rites rich in typology and theological density: the new fire is struck and the Paschal candle blessed and inscribed\, signifying Christ the Light of the world; the solemn chanting of the Exsultet proclaims the triumph of the Redeemer; a series of twelve prophecies traces salvation history from creation through the promises of the Old Covenant to their fulfilment in Christ; the baptismal font is blessed with elaborate ceremonies\, including the infusion of holy oils and the triple immersion of the Paschal candle\, expressing the life-giving power of Christ’s Resurrection; catechumens are baptised\, and the faithful renew their baptismal identity implicitly through participation; and finally\, the Mass of Holy Saturday is celebrated with the sudden return of the Gloria and the ringing of bells\, marking the transition from Lenten austerity to Paschal joy—yet still with a certain restraint\, as the full splendour of Easter is reserved for the following day\, when the Resurrection is proclaimed in its fullness.

SUMMARY:Easter Day
DESCRIPTION:Easter Sunday\, in the pre-1955 Roman Rite\, is the radiant culmination of the Sacred Triduum\, in which the Church proclaims with triumphant certainty the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ\, the definitive victory of life over death and grace over sin\, celebrated in the solemn Mass Resurrexi with its exultant Gloria and repeated Alleluia\, now restored after its Lenten silence; the liturgy\, rich in Paschal symbolism\, presents the empty tomb and the astonishment of the Apostles\, while the Church\, no longer veiled in mourning\, is clothed again in splendour\, and the faithful\, united to the risen Christ through baptismal grace\, share already in the promise of new life\, so that what was accomplished in mystery during the Vigil is now openly declared: Christ is risen\, truly risen\, and in Him the whole order of creation is renewed.

SUMMARY:Good Shepherd Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Good Shepherd Sunday (Second Sunday after Easter — Misericordia Domini) in the Tridentine Rite presents the Risen Christ as the Bonus Pastor who lays down His life for His sheep (John 10:11–16)\, uniting the mysteries of Passion and Resurrection in a single act of pastoral charity; the Introit proclaims that “the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord\,” while the Epistle (1 Peter 2:21–25) reminds the faithful that\, once wandering\, they have returned to the Shepherd and Bishop of their souls\, thereby framing the Christian life as one of docile following after Christ’s sacrificial example; situated within the joy of Eastertide\, the liturgy deepens into a meditation on divine governance\, contrasting the true Shepherd—who knows\, guards\, and dies for His flock—with the hireling who abandons it\, and thus implicitly calling both clergy and laity to fidelity\, vigilance\, and self-giving love under the authority of Him who reigns not by force\, but by the Cross. \n\n\n\nLow Mass with hymns followed by fellowship – please click on the Invitation link below to notify attendance.

SUMMARY:The Universal Patronage of St Joseph\, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary
DESCRIPTION:The Feast of the Patronage of Saint Joseph affirms the Church’s belief that the guardian of the Holy Family continues to protect the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ. Instituted by Pope Pius IX in 1870 during a time of crisis\, it proclaims Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. Theologically\, the feast teaches that Joseph’s authority is not juridical but paternal and moral—an ongoing guardianship exercised under divine providence. As he once protected Christ in His earthly life\, he now protects the Church amid danger and uncertainty. Liturgically\, it calls the faithful to place themselves under his care\, invoking his intercession for protection\, stability\, and fidelity. In every age\, especially in times of disorder\, the feast reminds the Church that she is not abandoned but safeguarded by the one God appointed as her protector. \n\n\n\nThird Sunday after Easter (Jubilate) in the Tridentine Rite takes its name from the Introit Jubiláte Deo omnis terra—“Shout with joy to God\, all the earth”—and continues the Paschal celebration while introducing a note of tension between joy and trial; the Gospel (John 16:16–22) presents Our Lord’s enigmatic words\, “A little while\, and you shall not see Me… and again a little while\, and you shall see Me\,” pointing simultaneously to His Resurrection\, Ascension\, and the hiddenness that will characterise the Church’s life in the world\, while the Epistle (1 Peter 2:11–19) exhorts the faithful to live as “strangers and pilgrims\,” abstaining from worldly desires and enduring suffering patiently for God’s sake; thus the liturgy holds together exultation and endurance\, reminding the faithful that Christian joy is not the absence of sorrow but its transformation—“your sorrow shall be turned into joy”—and that the Church\, though rejoicing in the Risen Christ\, must pass through a time of testing\, living by faith rather than sight\, until that promised joy is made complete.Low Mass with hymns followed by fellowship – please click on the Invitation link below to notify attendance.
