SUMMARY:Dominica VII Post Pentecosten
DESCRIPTION:On the Seventh Sunday Post Pentecost\, with the Commemoration of St. Pantaleon\, Martyr\, the faithful of the Old Roman Apostolate in Brighton gather once more around the altar of the Lord\, to offer the Holy Sacrifice in fidelity to the ancient liturgy and in grateful remembrance of the glorious witness of the saints. \n\n\n\nThe Missa “Omnes gentes\, pláudite mánibus” resounds with the call to all nations to clap their hands and rejoice in the dominion of the Most High. Yet the readings of the day are profoundly sober: the Epistle (Romans 6:19–23) contrasts the fruits of sin—which are shame and death—with the fruits of justice\, which are sanctification and eternal life. The Gospel (Matthew 7:15–21) gives Christ’s dire warning: that not all who call Him “Lord” shall enter the kingdom of heaven\, but only those who do the will of His Father. False prophets are to be judged by their fruits; outward appearances and pious words are not enough—what matters is fidelity\, obedience\, and moral transformation. \n\n\n\nIn this light\, the commemoration of St. Pantaleon\, a physician and martyr of Nicomedia during the Diocletian persecution\, shines with particular brilliance. Baptised in secret\, he devoted his medical skill to the service of the poor\, healing both bodies and souls in the name of Christ. Betrayed to the authorities\, he endured tortures with unshakable faith\, forgiving his persecutors and invoking Christ to the end. In the East\, he is venerated as one of the Holy Unmercenary Healers (Anargyroi)\, and his name lives on in the liturgical calendars of both East and West. \n\n\n\nHis feast\, kept as a commemoration on this Sunday\, reminds the faithful in Brighton that martyrdom is not a relic of the past. In an age where the confession of Christian truth is increasingly opposed—socially\, legally\, and ideologically—the example of St. Pantaleon urges a courageous witness to the Faith\, a willingness to suffer for righteousness\, and a hope that even amidst persecution\, God’s grace is victorious. \n\n\n\nThus\, on this Seventh Sunday\, the faithful are exhorted not merely to hear the Word\, but to live it. To bear good fruit in their lives—works of mercy\, repentance\, and truth—and to pray for the fortitude of the martyrs\, that they too might persevere unto the end. For it is not the name alone\, but the doing of the Father’s will\, that leads to eternal life. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:S. Hieronymi Æmiliani Confessoris
DESCRIPTION:On the Feast of St. Jerome Emiliani\, Confessor\, falling this year on the Sixth Sunday Post Pentecost\, the faithful of the Old Roman Apostolate in Brighton gather to honour both the saintly patron of orphans and the continued unfolding of the Church’s sanctifying mission through the sacred liturgy. \n\n\n\nThe Missa “Dóminus illuminátio mea” of the Sunday resounds with the Psalmist’s confidence in the Lord as light and salvation—a most fitting proclamation on a day that commemorates one who brought the light of Christ into the darkest places of human abandonment. St. Jerome Emiliani\, once a soldier and prisoner\, was transformed by divine grace into a father to the poor\, the sick\, and the destitute children of plague-stricken Venice. His life bore witness to the Gospel imperative heard in today’s Epistle (Romans 6:3–11)\, that in Christ we must die to sin and rise to newness of life. \n\n\n\nThe Gospel (Mark 8:1–9)\, recounting the miraculous feeding of the four thousand\, is not merely a record of compassion but a foretaste of the Eucharist and a summons to trust in Divine Providence. Just as Christ fed the multitude lest they faint on the way\, so He continues to nourish His faithful with the Bread of Life\, lest they grow weary in the wilderness of this world. \n\n\n\nIn the chapel at Brighton\, the commemorated feast of St. Jerome Emiliani is marked with reverent gratitude. His example inspires the faithful to acts of mercy\, especially toward the young and vulnerable. In a society that often discards the weak and obscures the true dignity of man\, the Old Roman Apostolate recalls the saint’s legacy: that Christian charity\, rooted in repentance and grace\, is a visible sign of the Kingdom of God. \n\n\n\nThus\, this Sunday\, the faithful kneel not only in adoration of the Lamb but in imitation of His servant—praying that\, like St. Jerome Emiliani\, they may be conformed to Christ through penance\, zeal\, and works of love. In this\, they bear witness to the living tradition of the Church\, which is ever ancient\, ever new.

SUMMARY:Dominica V Post Pentecosten
DESCRIPTION:On the Fifth Sunday Post Pentecost\, the faithful of the Old Roman Apostolate in Brighton gather to assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass\, uniting themselves with the unchanging tradition of the Church and the sacred rhythm of the liturgical year. Within the chapel\, where the altar stands as the axis of grace\, they come to adore\, to repent\, and to be sanctified by the mysteries of the Faith. \n\n\n\nThe Missa “Exáudi\, Dómine” opens with a cry to the Lord to hear the voice of His servant—a plea uttered by the Church in every age\, but with special poignancy in our own time of confusion and spiritual warfare. The Gospel of the day (Matthew 5:20–24) presents the words of Christ: that unless our justice exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees\, we shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. It is not enough to appear righteous; the heart must be purified\, and charity must reign. Reconciliation with our brother is placed before even the offering at the altar. \n\n\n\nThe faithful reflect on this solemn teaching in the light of the Epistle (1 Peter 3:8–15)\, which exhorts to brotherly love\, humility\, and peace. In a world of division and moral collapse\, the Church calls her children not to retreat in fear or anger\, but to embrace the hard road of interior conversion and active charity\, rooted in reverence for Christ as Lord. \n\n\n\nIn Brighton\, where the sea crashes against the ancient shore and the city pulses with modern anxieties\, the Oratory community of the Old Roman Apostolate stands as a bastion of peace\, truth\, and continuity. Here the faithful are nourished by the same Sacrifice that sanctified the early Church\, the same Gospel that converted the nations\, and the same sacraments that made saints of sinners. \n\n\n\nThis Sunday\, as always\, they kneel before the altar of God\, confessing their sins and receiving His mercy\, striving by grace to live according to the justice that leads to eternal life. And as the bell rings for the Consecration\, hearts are lifted to Calvary\, where love was poured out in silence\, and the justice of God was fulfilled in the obedience of the Son.

SUMMARY:SS. Apostolorum Petri et Pauli
DESCRIPTION:On the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul\, the faithful gather to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass\, lifting their hearts in honour of the two great pillars of the Church—Peter\, the Rock upon whom Christ built His Church\, and Paul\, the chosen vessel who bore the Gospel to the nations. As the sacred liturgy unfolds\, the Church gives thanks for the unshakable faith of Peter and the fiery zeal of Paul\, both crowned with martyrdom in the Eternal City. The Epistle and Gospel resound with apostolic authority\, bearing witness to the divine mission entrusted to them by Christ Himself. The faithful\, united in the same confession of faith\, receive the Holy Eucharist with reverence\, as the sacrament of unity handed down through the hands of the Apostles. This glorious feast renews our fidelity to the one\, holy\, Catholic\, and apostolic Church\, reminding us that her foundation is not of man\, but of Christ through His chosen instruments. In this holy offering\, we honour their witness\, invoke their intercession\, and pledge to keep the faith they preached even unto death.

SUMMARY:Sacratissimi Cordis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi
DESCRIPTION:On the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus\, the faithful gather to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass\, lifting their hearts to adore the Heart that has so loved men and is so little loved in return. As the sacred liturgy unfolds\, the Church contemplates the pierced Heart of the Saviour\, source of infinite mercy and furnace of divine charity. The Epistle speaks of the boundless love of Christ which surpasses all knowledge\, while the Gospel recalls the wound opened by the lance\, from which flowed blood and water—the birth of the Church and the sacraments. The faithful approach the altar with contrite hearts\, receiving in Holy Communion the same divine Heart that burned with love upon the Cross. This most tender feast renews our trust and reparation\, reminding us that in the Sacred Heart we find refuge\, strength\, and the wellspring of every grace. In this holy offering\, we are drawn into the inner life of the Redeemer\, and learn to make our own hearts meek and humble like His.

SUMMARY:Dominica infra Octavam Corporis Christi
DESCRIPTION:On the Sunday within the Octave of Corpus Christi\, the faithful gather once more for the Traditional Latin Mass\, prolonging their adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament and deepening their devotion to the mystery of the Eucharist. As the sacred liturgy unfolds\, the Church lingers at the threshold of the Cenacle and the Altar\, meditating on the divine humility by which our Lord feeds His children with His very Flesh and Blood. The Gospel speaks of the great banquet prepared by the King\, to which all are invited\, yet only the humble and obedient enter. The faithful receive the Holy Eucharist with renewed awe\, knowing it is not a symbol\, but the living Christ Himself. This Sunday within the Octave renews our gratitude and vigilance\, reminding us that the Sacrament we receive is both a pledge of eternal glory and a summons to holiness. In this holy offering\, we taste the goodness of the Lord and are strengthened to live as fitting tabernacles of His Presence in the world.

SUMMARY:Festum Sanctissimi Corporis Christi
DESCRIPTION:On Corpus Christi\, the faithful gather to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass\, lifting their hearts in adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar—Christ truly present\, Body\, Blood\, Soul\, and Divinity. As the sacred liturgy unfolds\, the Church gives voice to her joy in Eucharistic hymns composed by St Thomas Aquinas\, and the Gospel reveals the divine promise: “My Flesh is meat indeed\, and My Blood is drink indeed.” The altar becomes a new Bethlehem\, a new Calvary\, a foretaste of the heavenly banquet. The faithful fall to their knees in awe\, receiving the same Lord who once walked among men\, now hidden under the veil of bread and wine. This radiant feast renews our faith in the Real Presence\, reminding us that Christ remains with His Church in the Sacrament of love. In this holy offering\, Heaven touches earth\, and we are drawn into the eternal worship of the Lamb who was slain.

SUMMARY:Festum Sanctissimæ Trinitatis
DESCRIPTION:On Trinity Sunday\, the faithful gather to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass\, lifting their hearts in adoration of the most profound mystery of our faith: one God in three divine Persons—Father\, Son\, and Holy Ghost. As the sacred liturgy unfolds\, the Church’s ancient prayers and readings lead us into the ineffable light of the divine essence\, where unity and distinction dwell in perfect harmony. The Gloria resounds with Trinitarian praise\, the Creed professes the eternal truth revealed by Christ\, and in the Holy Eucharist\, the faithful receive the Son\, sent by the Father and consecrated by the Spirit. This sublime feast deepens our wonder and reverence\, reminding us that we were created by the Father\, redeemed by the Son\, and sanctified by the Holy Ghost. In this holy offering\, we worship the Triune God not in speculation\, but in love\, entering more fully into the communion for which we were made.

SUMMARY:Dominica Pentecostes
DESCRIPTION:On Pentecost Sunday\, the faithful gather to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass\, lifting their hearts in reverence and gratitude as the Church commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost. As the sacred liturgy unfolds\, the Scriptures recount the mighty wind and tongues of fire that filled the Upper Room\, the divine breath that animated the infant Church. Prayers rise with fervour\, echoing the ancient cry Veni\, Sancte Spiritus!—Come\, Holy Ghost!—and the faithful receive the Holy Eucharist\, in whom the same Spirit dwells in fullness. This glorious feast renews our fervour\, reminding us that the same Spirit who sanctified the Apostles now strengthens us to bear witness to Christ. In this holy offering\, we are filled anew with divine life\, confirmed in grace\, and sent forth to proclaim the wondrous works of God.

SUMMARY:In Ascensione Domini
DESCRIPTION:On Ascension Day\, the faithful gather to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass\, lifting their hearts with the Church in joy and awe as Christ ascends into heaven. As the sacred liturgy unfolds\, the Scriptures proclaim the mystery of His glorification\, prayers rise like incense to the throne of God\, and the faithful receive the Holy Eucharist—Christ Himself\, who now sits at the right hand of the Father. This solemn feast renews our hope\, reminding us that where the Head has gone before in glory\, the Body is called to follow. In this holy offering\, we glimpse the eternal communion that awaits us\, and we are strengthened for our pilgrimage on earth.

SUMMARY:12 Rules Study
DESCRIPTION:Each week\, we read a chapter of Dr. Jordan Peterson’s Twelve Rules for Life and compare and contrast his insights with perennial Catholic doctrine. Participants are encouraged to read the chapter ahead of the meeting\, noting their initial thoughts\, questions\, and reflections. Afterward\, they search the Catechisms—including the Penny Catechism\, the Catechism against Modernism\, and other traditional sources—for relevant teachings that either align with or challenge Peterson’s ideas. \n\n\n\nDuring the meeting\, we discuss these comparisons\, examining how Catholic moral theology\, hierarchy\, and objective truth provide a deeper and more complete understanding of the principles Peterson explores. By engaging in critical reflection and theological analysis\, participants strengthen their ability to articulate and defend the faith\, apply practical wisdom to daily life\, and prepare spiritually—especially in the context of the liturgical season. \n\n\n\nIf you’d like to join in the discussion and participate in our study group\, we meet every Wednesday from 5.30pm at Hartington Road\, email for an invitation.

SUMMARY:Easter Sunday Mass
DESCRIPTION:Easter Sunday dawns with radiant joy: Christus resurrexit! The tomb is empty\, death is vanquished\, and the light of the Resurrection dispels the shadows of sin and sorrow. In the ancient Roman rite\, the day begins with the solemn celebration of the Resurrection Mass\, rich with alleluias restored after their long silence. The Gospel recounts the women at the tomb\, the angel’s proclamation\, and the first stirrings of faith in the risen Lord. \n\n\n\nThe liturgy overflows with triumph: white vestments\, the Paschal Candle ablaze\, incense ascending in praise. The Sequence Victimae paschali laudes is sung\, a chant echoing across the centuries with the witness of Mary Magdalene: “Christ my hope is arisen!” \n\n\n\nHaving passed through the Passion\, the Church now rejoices with her risen Spouse. Easter Sunday is the feast of feasts\, the day of eternal victory\, the cornerstone of Christian joy. The faithful exult\, not only in a past event\, but in the living promise of resurrection and new life in Christ. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSo we can welcome you properly\, please complete the following: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Good Friday Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:In the ancient Roman rite\, Good Friday is marked by deep silence and solemnity. The altar lies bare; the sacred ministers enter in black vestments and prostrate before the altar. The liturgy begins without the usual Mass prayers\, for on this day\, no new Sacrifice is offered. Instead\, the Church commemorates the Passion of the Lord through readings\, solemn chants\, and powerful ritual. \n\n\n\nThe Passion according to St. John is sung in parts\, followed by the ancient intercessions—for Church and world\, for faithful and unbelieving alike. Then\, in a dramatic unfolding\, the Cross is unveiled in three stages as the faithful kneel and adore: Ecce lignum Crucis\, in quo salus mundi pependit. The faithful come forward to venerate the Cross in silence and sorrow. \n\n\n\nFinally\, the Blessed Sacrament—consecrated the previous day—is brought in solemn procession from the Altar of Repose. Then follows the Mass of the Presanctified at which only the celebrant receives Holy Communion\, consummating the sacrifice of the day on which Christ Himself was offered upon the Cross. The liturgy ends abruptly\, without blessing or dismissal\, and the faithful depart in silence\, awaiting the triumph of Easter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSo we can welcome you properly\, please complete the following: \n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading…

DESCRIPTION:On Maundy Thursday\, the Church begins the Sacred Triduum\, entering into the mystery of Christ’s Passion with solemn remembrance. The faithful gather for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper\, commemorating the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Priesthood. As the Gloria resounds and then falls silent\, the altar is stripped and the Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession to the Altar of Repose. There\, the faithful keep watch in adoration\, as Christ enters into His agony. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSo we can welcome you properly\, please complete the following: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Palm Sunday Mass
DESCRIPTION:Palm Sunday marks the solemn beginning of Holy Week. In the ancient Roman rite\, the faithful gather outside the church\, where palms are blessed with ornate prayers\, chants\, and the sprinkling of holy water. A Gospel is proclaimed recounting Christ’s entry into Jerusalem\, and the people\, bearing palms\, join in procession: Hosanna to the Son of David! The doors of the church are struck and opened\, symbolizing Christ’s approach to His Passion and the gates of heaven. \n\n\n\nOnce inside\, the mood shifts from triumph to sorrow. The sacred ministers change from red to violet vestments\, and the Passion according to St. Matthew is solemnly chanted or read in parts. The altar is not incensed; the mood is one of growing intensity and sorrow. The liturgy ends wit \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSo we can welcome you properly\, please complete the following: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Passion Sunday Mass
DESCRIPTION:Passion Sunday marks a deepening of Lent’s solemnity as the Church enters the final fortnight before Easter—known as Passiontide. In the ancient Roman rite\, this day signals a shift: the sacred liturgy becomes more austere\, and all crosses and images are veiled in violet\, signifying the hiddenness of Christ’s divinity as He approaches His Passion. \n\n\n\nThe Gospel recounts the growing hostility toward Christ\, culminating in the words: “Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.” From this day forward\, the liturgy becomes more focused on the suffering and rejection of the Lord. The Gloria Patri is omitted in the responsories; even the Psalms seem to darken with sorrow. \n\n\n\nYet in this veiling\, the Church prepares her children to gaze more intently upon the mystery of the Cross—soon to be unveiled in glory. Passion Sunday is the gateway to the mysteries of Holy Week\, calling the faithful to accompany the Man of Sorrows to Calvary.

SUMMARY:Lent Study 12 Rules
