The Revd Fr Andrew Scurr MA(Hons) MSc BDiv
Fr Andrew assists the Oratory’s mission as an assistant pastor in Brighton and serving the Mission of Our Lady of Walsingham & St Lewinna, Buxted.
Fr Andrew became a Roman Catholic whilst studying Mathematics at Christ Church College, Oxford (MA) and received Confirmation under the auspices of the University Chaplaincy. Through conversations with friends and Chaplains, he began to discern a vocation to the priesthood. After graduation, Father began discerning his vocation studying initially at the Venerable English College, Rome and later as a Postulant and Novice with the London Congregation of the Oratory at Brompton.
Whilst studying for his Master of Science degree in Financial Mathematics at Edinburgh, he worshipped with a Traditional Latin Mass community there and his love for the Traditional Latin Mass began. Father taught mathematics at Mill Hill School and later at the Royal Ballet School before becoming Head of Mathematics at St Edmund’s College Ware, London. He has since worked in the Financial Services sector in the City as a Risk Analyst.
Discovering the broadcast Masses of the Traditional Latin Mass online aired by the Brighton Oratory, Fr Andrew made contact with the Provost and in October 2009 began discerning his vocation to the Sacred Ministry within the Old Roman Catholic Church. Completing the Pre-Formation Course and after recommendation to the Bishop by the Examining Chaplains, Fr Andrew was Tonsured and received formally into the Seminary Formation process at Candlemass, February 2011. In October of the same year he began a post-graduate Bachelor of Divinity degree with the Maryvale Institute.
With his previous studies and experience at the Venerable English College and the Brompton Oratory taken into account and the expected completion of his Seminarial Formation and post-graduate studies in theology, Fr Andrew was ordained a Subdeacon at Pentecost 2012, a Deacon in February 2013 and a Priest at Pentecost of the same year. In 2016 Fr Andrew graduated with an Ecclesiastical Bachelor of Divinity degree conferred through Maryvale Higher Institute of Religious Sciences by La Faculté Nôtre-Dame Paris, Ecole Cathedrale, Paris under the authority of the Holy See (a signatory to the 1999 Bologna Declaration).
